E85 Conversion Kits: Turn Your Car into a Flex Fuel Vehicle

An E85 conversion kit allows a standard gasoline engine to run on either gasoline or E85, effectively making it a flex fuel vehicle (FFV). With one kit, you gain the flexibility to choose your fuel based on price, performance, or environmental impact.

Why consider E85?

In California, the answer is simple: sky-high gas prices. The state frequently sees gasoline surge past $5, and sometimes $6, per gallon. A conversion kit lets you switch to E85, a cleaner, renewable fuel that’s often $2 or more per gallon cheaper.

  • June 2022: Gas hit a record $6.29/gal. E85 was $2.24 cheaper.
  • September 2023: Drivers paid $5.52/gal for gasoline, while E85 saved them $2.05/gal.

Cleaner, renewable fuel

E85 is made of 85% ethanol and 15% hydrocarbon—and at Pearson Fuels stations, that hydrocarbon is increasingly renewable. Compared to gasoline, E85 burns cleaner, reduces emissions and helps cut air pollution.

E85 is only getting more convenient to find

With more than 600 E85 retail locations across California (and growing), access has never been easier. Download the free Pearson Fuels app to locate stations near you, and keep an eye out for the yellow E85 hose at the pump.

Big picture impact

Converting even a fraction of California’s 27 million vehicles to E85 would deliver up to 80% lifecycle GHG emission reductions compared to gasoline. If a stable population of FFVs regularly fueled with E85, Californians could save an estimated $461 million annually by 2035.

E85 conversion kits are more than a way to cut fuel costs – they’re a step toward cleaner air, renewable energy and real savings. For California drivers, they’re a smart answer to ever-changing gas prices.
